*Miss Representation – I saw this documentary at Sundance Film Festival and it was one of the most powerful films I’ve ever see as a woman, and as a mother of a daughter. . Click on the link to see a 3 minute clip of the film and find yourself asking, “What can I do?”
*ImagineNations are whimsical worlds, decoupaged by hand with recyclable materials on vintage globes. Each work of art is a one of a kind, custom designed, creation by the insanely talented Wendy Gold.
*Granite In A Can! Looking to update your countertops, but don’t want the exorbitant expense (or the hassle) of annual resealing, Giani Granite Paint might be your answer. This resin paint is designed to look as elegant as granite, but three times as tough. A single kit us usually enough for a standard kitchen and comes with a DVD tutorial for the less handy.
Ever want to curl up WITH the common cold – scientific name Rhinovirus. GIANTmicrobes provides educational & entertaining stuffed animals that look like common microbes, only million times the actual size. So whether you are dealing with a cavity, flu, bedbug, food poisoning, E. coli or an ulcer GIANTmicrobes can (at least) make you smile about it.
*The Working Proof seeks to promote art and social responsibility. Each print is paired with a charity of the artist’s choice, to which 15% of the sale of each print is donated- creating what they believe to be a product with not just aesthetic, but social value. My current favorite is called ‘Grow Your Imagination’ by APAK and proceeds from this print go to 826National.
*Newport Folk Festival July 30 & 31- the lineup includes some of my most favorite musicians such as David Wax Museum, Dar Williams, Ellis Paul, Gillian Welch, & The Decemberists. It’s held each year in Newport, RI – one of my most beloved cities. I was back in attendance last year after sorely missing it the last decade and it was as amazing and magical as I remembered.
*Backdoor Harvest– The folks at Backdoor Harvest will prepare, plant, and tend a garden in your very own backyard. They’ll even harvest the crops and leave them for you at your back door! Prices start around $5 per square foot of garden. Mmmm, I can already taste this summer’s fresh tomatoes.
*2 Sumptuous Spring Sippers: Undoubtedly Vanilla – take one part Vanilla Vodka and two parts Vanilla Chai flavored Rooibee Red Tea; Contrary Mint Julep – take one part Bourbon and two parts Watermelon Mint flavored Rooibee Red Tea, garnish with mint. *Ipad Case & Wall Mount from A + R Store. Ingenious idea for mounting in any room but I think it would be great in a kitchen. Listen to music, cue up a recipe, skim a magazine, scroll through photos or a simple aquarium background make the possibilities limitless.

*MoOM – You have to check out the Museum of Online Museums! The galleries are updated continuously, and new exhibitions are hung each quarter. Specifically watch this great documentary called The Curators. It is a three-part film, hosted by Collections Director, Kevin Guilfoile (bestselling author), that focuses on the collectors and the collected… and highlights our own St. Louisian Bill Keaggy.
*My new favorite late night cocktail, The Last Call, created by moi (okay, borrowed heavily from a bar in Newport, RI). 1 part Patron XO Cafe tequila (yes, I’m still in a tequila phase), 1 part vanilla vodka, 1 part Kahlua. Mix over ice in a shaker, strain, serve in chilled martini glass with coffee beans for garnish.

Whether you mail it or gift it, simply open and pop-up Postcarden’s 3D scene, add the enclosed cress seeds and water. In a matter of days PostCarden will start to grow, lasting for two to three weeks. Bring some good green to your workspace or perfect for a kid in college.
*Edie Careyis so “folkin” amazing! If you haven’t had the pleasure, head on over to listen to select tracks from her album – Another Kind of Fire. “On her fourth studio album, ‘Another Kind of Fire,’ Edie Carey demonstrates why she is an in-demand performer. In the tradition of Dar Williams, her songs strike a universal chord, her voicing is soothing, yet strong, and the arrangements never fail to have an emotional impact. Songs such as ‘Bonfire,’ ‘My Heart’ and ‘Hollywood Ending’ qualify Carey as the Shawn Colvin of her generation.” – Bay Area Reporter
